“ VIVANT” – WORLD SUICIDE PREVENTION DAY PROGRAMME
On the occasion of World Suicide Prevention Day, September 10th, the Social Work Department of KMCT Arts and Science College organized a special event titled "VIVANT" aimed at raising awareness about suicide prevention and mental health. The event was held to engage students and foster a supportive environment that encourages open discussions about mental health challenges.
The program was formally inaugurated by Mr Shamsudheen, Principal of KMCT Arts and Science College who emphasized the importance of mental health awareness and the critical role young people play in preventing suicide. The Presidential Address was delivered by Mr Vineeth, the Head of the Department of English and the Coordinator of IQAC, who further highlighted the significance of such initiatives in educational institutions. The program featured several competitions designed to engage students in meaningful activities, including:
- Spot Speech
- Documentary Screening (Topic: “Breaking the silence” – Stories of survival and hope.)
- Seminar Presentation ( Topic: “ Understanding the causes of suicide and prevention in vulnerable populations: Youth, LGBTQ & Indigenous communities”)
The winners of these competitions were awarded cash prizes as a form of recognition for their efforts and contributions to the cause. The event concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks delivered by Ms Fahidha Jebin, the Head of the Social Work Department. She expressed her gratitude to the Principal, faculty members, students, and all participants for their support and involvement in making the program a success. The event saw enthusiastic participation from students across various departments, showcasing their creativity and dedication. Overall, the event was a success, with students actively participating and contributing to the goal of promoting mental well-being. The dedication of the Social Work Department and the support from the college faculty were instrumental in making the program impactful. The day concluded with a renewed commitment to fostering a healthy, supportive environment for all.
